Fort Sumter
Named after General Thomas Sumter, Fort Sumter is the Third System masonry coastal fortification located in the Charleston Harbor. The Fort is best known as the site where the shots initiating the American Civil War were fired. Located just 3 miles from the Best Western Sweetgrass Inn, this is a historical site you will not want to miss!
South Carolina Aquarium
Located on the historic Charleston Harbor, the South Carolina Aquarium is home to over 10,000 plants and animals. The largest exhibit, the Great Ocean Tank, extends from the first to the third floor of the Aquarium and holds over 385,000 gallons of water and contains over 300 animals. The Aquarium also features a Discovery Lab in which patrons are able to touch horseshoe crabs, starfish, and other marine animals.
