Founded by band leader Lawrence Welk, this 600 acre smoke free resort is 6 miles north of Escondido and 20 miles east of area beaches. San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, Sea World, and Balboa Park are within 41 miles. The resort opened in 1968 and continues to expand. The grounds include two 18 hole golf courses, three recreation centers with six pools, a 339 seat musical theater, and a museum of Welk memorabilia.

The resort offers 438 villas in one, two, and three story buildings with exterior entrances and no elevators. Villas have kitchens, spacious living areas, and patios or balconies with views of the golf courses, pools, or surrounding canyons. Amenities include high speed Internet access, VCRs or DVD players, and complimentary premium channels. Some villas also have washers and dryers. Daily housekeeping is available upon request for a surcharge. All rooms are nonsmoking.

An on site water park has a 140 foot water slide and an interactive playground. Other child friendly features include games, an arcade, and a playground. The resort offers activities such as exercise classes, movie nights, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, dance lessons, and bus tours of Hollywood and Tijuana.
